New Exhibition Opens at Mount Vernon 'Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection'

Beginning February 13, Historic Mount Vernon's F.M. Kirby Gallery in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum hosts a special new exhibition, Bringing Them Home: 150 Years of Restoring the Washington Collection. Organized in honor of the sesquicentennial of the opening of Mount Vernon to the public in 1860, Bringing Them Home celebrates the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association's remarkable 150-year pursuit of original Washington artifacts. These recently returned items-which include examples of fine and decorative arts, books, and manuscripts-enrich our understanding of George and Martha Washington's daily lives at Mount Vernon. Most items are being publicly exhibited for the first time, and many have not been at Mount Vernon since the Washingtons lived here. Bringing Them Home tells the incredible tale of how objects have returned-and continue to return-to Mount Vernon.

"Oatlands After Five," is a new evening event series, that gives patrons access to Oatlands on select evenings. "Oatlands after Five" events begin with Gardens @ Sunset on May 6.

During Gardens @ Sunset, visitors to Oatlands will enjoy music and the gardens on May 6, May 13, September 9 and September 16 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Corcoran Vineyards will have beverages and snacks available for purchase or patrons may bring a picnic! Tickets for this event will be sold on-site, $12 Adults, $6 Oatlands' members, Children under 6 free.

The Occoquan Merchants Association offers walking tours of Occoquan's history and hauntings!

Ghost tour season runs from late April through October.

Guided tours are available most Friday and Saturday evenings, beginning at 7:00 pm.

Adults $10.00
Children (12 and younger) $5.00

Reservations must be made and paid for in advance at Salt & Pepper Books 125 Mill Street Occoquan, VA or by calling 703-491-4411 or 571-334-7357.

Group Tours (10+) available by appointment.

All sales are final, unless the tour is cancelled by the OMA.

The walking tour last approximately one hour. Please dress appropriately for outdoor weather and wear comfortable shoes.

The lights on "The Strip" have never been brighter! The whole city of Las Vegas is buzzing about the Entertainer of the Year Contest. Every lounge lizard in town is entered, and the competition will be fierce, because the grand prize is a lifetime booking at the biggest joint in town, The Fantasyland Casino! There isn't an Elvis imitator or Wayne Newton wannabe around that wouldn't kill for the chance to work that room. And we do mean KILL, in Mystery Dinner Playhouse's outrageously funny mystery, "Murder, Las Vegas Style."

Doors open one-half hour before showtime. Please arrive on time as a courtesy to other guests and to ensure proper seating.

The 2010 market will be held on Saturdays (8 am to 12 pm) from 4/24/10 to 11/6/10 (excluding 6/5/10 and 9/25/10) in the parking lot at the end of Mill Street (near the Tourist Information Center).

Welcome to Occoquan's local producer-only weekly market! The market features locally grown and/or produced items, including fresh produce, baked goods, and specialty items.

The market is held on Saturdays, 8 am to Noon,from April through November.

The Occoquan Farmers' Market is managed and sponsored by the Occoquan Merchants Association (OMA).

The Workhouse studio artists will keep their doors open after hours on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 6:00-9:00pm. During 2nd Saturday Art Walk is the perfect time to explore the Workhouse and experience the vitality, creativity and diversity of the artists who make up this unique arts community.

The Association of Interior Design Professionals (AIDP) will host a reception in conjunction with the Art Walks in W-16 from 6:00-7:00pm to bring together artists, interior design professionals and the public to highlight the creative incorporation of original art into interior design settings. All are invited to talk art and design with these creative design professionals.

Don't forget to pick up your Workhouse Passport to chronicle your adventures and experiences and to enter to win special prizes!
